ZeST COLLECTIVE: ROOTS & RHYTHMS

Date/Time: October 21  – 25, 2024 • 10:30AM

Roots & Rhythms celebrates the voices of Black musicians, intertwining biography, social history, music, and choreography to honor the beauty and innovations of the African diaspora. This performance, co-presented by Miami Theater Center, Miami Light Project, and Culture Shock Miami, explores a century of creativity, innovation, and triumph, telling the stories of Black artists and communities whose songs resonated despite America's dark history of oppression.

THE TEMPEST

Get ready for a whirlwind of magic, mischief, and laughter in The Tempest, a fantastical adventure! In this playful reimagining of Shakespeare’s classic, produced by the Hand2Hand Team, we follow the mighty Duchess Próspera and her daughter as they are swept away to a mysterious island teeming with magical creatures. With plenty of toe-tapping tunes, hilarious hijinks, and lovable characters guiding the way, young audiences will be whisked into a world where love conquers all and justice shines bright. Featuring six delightful characters and a story packed with charm, this adaptation promises a fun-filled, enchanting experience for all!

LA CABEZA DE TOMÁS

Step into a world where imagination runs wild and anything is possible! La Cabeza de Tomás (In Tomás' Head) takes us to a lively classroom where, every Monday, the teacher asks the kids to share their weekend adventures. Most give the usual answers—except Tomás, whose stories are filled with fantastical adventures that leave everyone amazed! The doubting teacher keeps asking, unsure if Tomás is telling the truth until a museum visit changes her perspective entirely. Based on the award-winning story by Mireya Tabuas, with illustrations by Yonel Hernández, this playful tale celebrates the power of imagination and believing in your dreams!

The great gatsby – HIGH SCHOOL TOUR!

MTC is proud to present its latest addition to the Signature Performance series: Literature to Life’s adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s timeless classic, The Great Gatsby. Set on Long Island and in New York City during the early twentieth century, this captivating story unfolds at the height of the Jazz Age and the Prohibition Era. The novel delves into the complexities of social class distinctions, the clash between “old money” and “new money,” and explores themes of gender, race, environmentalism, and the true cost of the American Dream.

Inez barlatier: STORIES & SONGS FROM AYITI

Date/Time: March 17, 18, 20 & 21, 2025

Recommended Grades: Elementary

Miami-based musicians Inez Barlatier and her Family Band will be celebrating the vibrancy and significance of our local Haitian community’s art and culture here in Miami. Through storytelling, songs, and visual art, kids and families will be guided on a journey through Caribbean folklore, exploring themes of community and gratitude.

Join us in celebrating 20 Andrés and Christina are the GRAMMY and Latin-Grammy award-winning music duo 123 Andrés. Their catchy songs and lively performances get the whole audience dancing, singing, and learning! Available for family concerts and student matinees, these high-energy, joyful shows celebrate the Latinx experience and incorporate Spanish and English.
